I'm wrenching on Sunday... but I'm doing it at my house... I've got a driveway full of vehicles that need work. :) You're welcome to come by! I've gotta spend some time on my own fleet this weekend.

I've gotta work on my bus, and that old CB 750 that I'm fixing up. I'm busy sat, but wrenching at home on Sunday in the afternoon, probably 11am - 3pm or so.

I'm down to wrench on Sunday, especially if you wanna work on the Honda. :-)

I haven't bought anything at a store, but if you are willing to wait, I don't think that you can beat the prices from Motorcycle Superstore. It's online. I would take the wheel and tire to Jeremy at Flash Motorbikes. I think it would be a total of 25 to remove the old tire and mount the new one.

Nice! You can probably taken them to Kasson on S. Congress to get them mounted. Would be way more convenient for you in terms of location.

word! Yeah, I can actually say I rode that tire to the end of its life - safety 3rd, thrifty first! . Once my tires show up I'll probably just take the rims over to kasson, it's super close.

Really looking forward to having 2 new tires, should be a game changer. :)

Oh, I'll also be putting on the rear shocks, clutch cable, and possibly rebuilding the front forks if the springs and boots come in on time.

This is how the bike currently sits. Wheels have been disassembled and dropped off at the powdercoater. Tank had to be repainted because someone backed up into the bike and knocked it over at the beginning of October. The bits should be done the beginning of next week, and we're going to be ready for re-assembly.

Sic! Glad to hear the dissassembly is complete and everything is off at the powdercoater! Do you want to post a wrench day to get it back together / true the wheels etc? Would love to be there and help out, and I'm sure a few others would as well! That's gonna be one fresh ride good sir.

Yeah, that would be awesome. Really, the biggest thing I'm concerned about is truing the wheels. Also, the wheel bearing retainers require a special tool that is no longer made. Some people fab one up with a dowel rod with small bolts drilled through. I actually had to take the wheels to Flash to get that done. I'm thinking I can get the new bearings in by putting the hubs in the oven for 30-45 minutes and then pressing in the bearings after they've been freshly removed from the freezer. I'm hoping things button up easier than the disassembly process.

I'll see what I can get done by midweek next week, and then maybe we can figure out what is left by Sunday after next..

Awesome man. Sounds good. It'll be interesting to see how the bearings go back in... on my old KZ650 I was able to press in new ones "by hand" with a wood block a hammer and a little muscle.

Word. Gusts what i plan on doing to get the bearings in initially, but i'll use a socket that just fits around the out rim and tap it the rest of the way in.

Awesome. YouTube has been a good resource for me. Of course, I'm sure it makes things simpler than they really are, but I'm willing to give it a shot. With the portable stand, we will need two even tables or other makeshift stand to help us out. Otherwise, we will need to get something that already comes on a stand, like so:

I'm hoping Jamie can chime in when it comes to trueing. I think that will be the most difficult part. I have someone that can mount the tires for me with good equipment. Hopefully, we all can learn how to balance, which I've heard is not that difficult.

Yeah, I can help with truing. If anything, truing a motorcycle should be easier than a bike wheel. There are more spokes and the rim is a lot stiffer on it's own.

I'm down to wrench on Sunday... I can probably help true a wheel.. roughly, I've done it on my old moto and it's basically the same a s a bicycle. Do you have a center stand on that moto, or just the kickstand? Maybe Jamie can help with this as well...

I can true bicycle wheels. In some ways, it might even be easier to true motorcycles wheels.

It will take approximately one week. I just have one three ton jack, and one for my car. Maybe another jack would do the trick?

Should it matter whether I true before or after powdercoating?

You need to disassemble the wheel if you're going to powdercoat them. Then you reassemble them, then true them last.

You don't want to powdercoat a fully assembled wheel. You wouldn't actually be able to true the wheel then, because the spokes and nipples would be covered and bonded together by the powdercoat. Plus it probably wouldn't look very good. You only want to powdercoat the rims, then get black spokes and nipples if that's the look you're going for.

Word. I won't be able to find black spokes for my bike, I don't think. Would it be difficult to powdercoat the spokes and nipples separately on your opinion?

You can't powdercoat the spokes and nipples because they have threads that would get covered up. Plus the powdercoat is kind of thick, and it can make it difficult to fit things back together.

It looks like maybe you can have motorcycle spokes powder coated. They must mask off the threads.

YES! That movie is epic, in that sort of 60's - 70's 'it starts off normal and then goes on an acid trip' kind of way. Love the bikes and the style of riding... especially when they just take off into the woods. So rad. Roadtrip? How's the Goldwing running?

The goldwing is 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I broke another bolt off in the head and the machine shop ended up snapping a drill inside it, so it's pretty much a goner. I found another one that is cheap and close and should be here in a few days. But as of now, it looks like my head gaskets won't arrive for a few weeks :(

It's good for free. If not being sold by a shop, certainly after hearing from a shop how much it might cost to get running.

Basically he says after a "Long Lay-up" you can help restore some of the engine components by running it for 20 minutes with a 50/50 mix of oil and transmission fluid.
