Notre but est de faire apparaître les liens secrets entre les différents motifs, la signification cachée de certaines expressions et la façon dont le moindre détail de cette tapisserie se rattache à l'idée d'une recherche du "Temps perdu" (dans les quatre sens de cette expression). Ou, pour user d'une image empruntée à Gide, de découvrir en quoi LA RECHERCHE est "une forêt où il est agréable de se perdre."
